Blog10: Tip Tip Barsa Pani : Healthy Monsoon

Monsoon is the most awaited season due to its pleasant weather, especially after extremely hot days. We love the rain, the cool breeze, and the cloudy sky. But it also brings certain health risks. Immunity gets lowered and the body becomes susceptible to allergies, infections, indigestion problems, and more. Most of the time people suffer from the problem of indigestion during the monsoon season as the airborne bacteria are very well active in the environment and can easily get inside your body with the food you eat. But, don’t worry, a proper diet can build up the immunity system to keep you healthy during this season.

Tips to eat healthy in monsoon ☔:
  1. Monsoon is the time to eat freshly cut and cooked food in a hygienic manner. Consuming bitter vegetables like bitter gourd, and bitter herbs like neem, turmeric powder, and methi seeds help in preventing infections.
  2. Vegetables recommended during the monsoon are snake gourd (turi), gourd (lauki/dudhi), pointed gourd (parwal), cluster beans (gavaar), apple gourd (tinda) and bitter gourd (karela). Try not to eat green leafy vegetables.
  3. Consume lots of fruits as they help you restore energy. It is better to stick to seasonal fruits because non-seasonal ones tend to be infested with worms during the monsoons.  Apples, bananas, mangoes, pomegranates, and pears are best suggestible.
  4. Raw vegetables, meats, and other raw materials that must be washed carefully in water before cooking. Saltwater should be used to clean vegetables especially green vegetables before cooking to kill the germs thriving on them.
  5. Cook only the required quantity of food and consume it at the earliest. Avoid frequent and repeated heating of food items. Do not eat raw vegetable salads, instead consume sauteed vegetable salads or steamed vegetables.
  6. Despite the weather being cool, you still have to drink an ample amount of water to flush out the toxins from the body. You need to be careful about the water you drink, avoid drinking water from any source, always drink boiled cleaned water, and if not possible, drink sealed bottled water or purified water.
  7. Do not buy cut fruits and vegetables from the market or even don’t purchase vegetables in bulk. Buy only what is required on alternate days to stock fresh vegetables. A large number of fruits and vegetables should not be stored in the fridge and they tend to rot in a day or two.
  8. While traveling if you are hungry, instead of eating samosas, vada pav, etc. go for bhuna chana (roasted Bengal gram), homemade chikki, ladoo, or whole fruits like apple, pear, bananas, and dry fruits.
  9. During the monsoon season, it is advised not to consume fast food and snacks from the roadside stalls. This can give rise to stomach infection.
  10. Since during the monsoon season, humidity is really high in the environment, the ability of the body to digest comes down. It will be better for people to avoid oily food which is prepared in the street. Only the healthy food prepared at home must be considered.
Hope you all like the article. Now you know about all the dos and don’ts for the monsoon season in terms of your food habits, so go ahead and enjoy the monsoon in a healthier way!

Happy Monsoon!!

Blog91: Desi Protein Powder "Sattu"

It's ironic but there are some foods off our radar because they are easily available and inexpensive. For some reason, health is now an expensive proposition. Or perhaps we expect that we need to pay a lot to be healthy. A case in point is expensive protein powders that we order online when the solution really lies in our backyards. Sattu, a flour made up of roasted Bengal gram (and sometimes a bit of barley), is available around the corner. It's considered "poor man's food" as it is popular among those who do manual labour. One of the biggest benefits of this wonderful food is that it makes you immensely robust. Eating sattu in breakfast gives you a boost of protein before you begin the day. Nutritional Background 60 grams (4 tbsp) of this roasted flour will give you 19.7 grams of high-quality protein along with – Calcium and magnesium (a fantastic combination as magnesium helps calcium get better absorbed into the body).
